Imperative (Commands)

How do I form the imperative (commands) in German?

du-form: Remove -st from the present tense du form. For strong verbs with vowel change (e→i/ie, a→ä), the vowel change remains, but no umlaut for 'a'. Add -e for verbs ending in -d/-t, -ig.

ihr-form: Same as the present tense ihr form.

Sie-form: Sie + infinitive + Sie.

wir-form: Wir + infinitive + wir.

Example

du: Sprich! (Speak! - from du sprichst)

du: Geh! (Go! - from du gehst)

du: Arbeit*e!* (Work! - from du arbeitest)

ihr: Sprecht! (Speak! - from ihr sprecht)

Sie: Sprechen Sie! (Speak! - formal)

wir: Sprechen wir! (Let's speak!)
