What's the difference between "als," "wann," and "wenn"?

All can mean "when."

als: Used for a single event in the past. Als ich ein Kind war, spielte ich viel. (When I was a child...)

wann: Used for direct and indirect questions about time. Wann kommst du? (When are you coming?) Ich weiß nicht, wann er kommt. (I don't know when he's coming.)

wenn: Used for repeated events in the past or present, future events, or conditional clauses ("if").

Immer wenn ich Zeit hatte, las ich. (Whenever I had time...)

Wenn es regnet, bleiben wir zu Hause. (If/When it rains...)

Wenn er morgen kommt, sage ich es ihm. (If he comes tomorrow...)
